For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS.

With total procurement value of over $3.4 Billion in 2015, UNICEF served children in humanitarian situations across 53 countries, with nearly $148 million in emergency supplies procured to help millions of children caught in conflict and natural disasters.

UNICEF in People's Republic of China

China's impressive progress improving the lives of children and women is accompanied by active participation of its marketers in supply of UNICEF materials; in 2014, the total value of procurement sourced through Chinese Suppliers has reached $55M; of particular note, nearly all Education Kits materials are procured from Suppliers based in China.

UNICEF China Country Office

UNICEF China provides supply assistance in four key areas,

  • Implementation of the Country Office Programmes and Operations
    UNICEF China implements its Country Office programmes in accordance to the work-plans, including procurement of goods and services that exceeded US$4.7 M in value in 2015. Further information on Country Office procurement can be viewed in the section “Products and Services”.
     
  • Undertaking procurement action on behalf of other Countries
    UNICEF China Office supports other UNICEF Offices in delivery of supplies. During the last five years, the total value of procurement actions taken on behalf of other offices was over US$44M. Reaching 24 different Countries, amongst top UNICEF Offices that benefited from delivery of supplies by China based Vendors are Afghanistan, Philippines, Sierra Leone, DPRK, Nepal, Uganda and Others.
     
  • Support to Supply Division in day to day operations of the Regional Logistics Hub in Shanghai
    through performance monitoring, coordination with government counterparts and service providers. The RLC in Shanghai is primarily used for production, storage (including pre-positioning of items for emergency response) and shipment of standard and customised education kits. In 2015, the total volume of these supplies was US$ 14,510,987, with 167,046 kits produced.
     
  • Emergency Response
    UNICEF China CO has been supporting Countries in emergency by fast tracking procurement and delivery of essential supplies; liaised with Supply Division in emergency response of deliveries that originated from China; worked with China Customs Office and market representatives to provide solution to ship UNICEF goods within 48 hours.
     

China Office will in this strategic area

  • Continue discussions with Government of China for strategic enhancement of emergency response mechanisms to serve UNICEF programmes globally.
  • Establish Long Term Agreements for emergency items with supplies readiness and export/shipment arrangements in place
