China’s official poverty measurement focuses mainly on rural areas. The current rural poverty line is RMB 2,300 per person per year at 2010 prices, equivalent to US$2.3 per person per day, and higher than the updated international extreme poverty line (US$1.9 per person per day) of the World Bank.
