In 2017, 14.07 million migrant children attended primary and junior secondary education in receiving cities, accounting for 28 per cent of all students in receiving cities in primary and junior secondary education. Among them, 10.42 million migrant children attended primary education, accounting for 30.1 per cent of all students in receiving cities in primary education, and 3.64 million migrant children attended junior secondary education, accounting for 23.3 per cent of all students in receiving cities in junior secondary education. In eastern China, 58.3 per cent of migrant children attended primary and junior secondary schools. Across different provinces, the proportion of migrant children as a percentage of total school enrolment in receiving cities ranged from 15 to 47 per cent in primary schools, and 9 to 41 per cent in junior secondary schools.
