When the first rays of morning sunlight stream through light gauze curtains, do you feel the world’s gentle greeting?
Within it, there are flowers blooming, insects chirping, the fragrance of morning dew, and a fresh breeze...
On this special day—World Children’s Day—let’s pause our hurried steps and focus on children’s mental health. Let’s open the windows, let the sunshine in to fill the hearts of children with the warmth of love, guiding them forward and leaving a trail of fragrance.
We Propose the Following Mental Health Call to Action:
Dear Children: In this fast-paced, knowledge-rich world, we know you have your own worries and struggles. Your well-being matters deeply to us, and here’s your right:
- Express yourself – Share your thoughts openly and make your views known to adults and others, and gently but firmly say “no” to anything that feels wrong.
- Confide in someone – When something troubles you physically or emotionally, find a trusted person to talk to right away; your concerns deserve to be heard.
- Seek guidance – No need to be fearful or be at lost when you are facing an emotional low, or big challenge in life. Don’t hesitate to talk with your parents, class teacher, school counselor, or friends. Remember, your happiness and future can be in your hands.
Dear Parents: Before or after school, please give your child:
- A hug – A warm, silent embrace that offers more than words, giving your child strength to face the challenges ahead.
- Patience – Take a moment, hold back, and let them grow at their own pace, allowing them to try, participate, and discover for themselves.
- Companionship – Be present with quality listening, so that they are always surrounded by warmth and affection.
Dear Schools & Teachers: In addition to teaching and grading, take a pause now and then to give your students:
- A compassionate look – A look that acknowledges their feelings and encourages them to express themselves openly.
- An affirmation – Timely, positive, constructive feedback that helps children see their own potential and unique strength.
- A meaningful dialogue – An unhurried conversation that offers listening, interaction, and encouragement, filling the campus with trust and care.
- A commitment – a commitment to make every possible effort to work with parents and the community to safeguard children’s mental wellbeing.
Dear Neighbors, Passersby, and Community Members: When you see a child, or a group of children, please extend:
- A bit of patience – We were once children, some of us have children, and some of us will have children. These children will grow up. With this perspective, your heart fills naturally with warmth.
- A response – Notice a child’s actions, offer positive feedback, listen, and response. Where possible, extend a helping hand.
- A smile – A smile can ignite another smile, kindness sparks more kindness, and together we create a harmonious community.
A child-friendly society is woven from countless acts of kindness. When we open the windows of children’s hearts, the sun shines will into every corner.
Let’s listen to every child’s voice, and light up their future.
