UNICEF Sends Supplies to Children Affected by Henan Floods

Beijing, 29 July 2021 – UNICEF has sent first batch of supplies to girls and boys in Xinxiang City, Henan Province who have been affected by record-breaking flooding following days of heavy rain. Supplies include 4,000 hygiene kits: 2,000 kits for girls and 2,000 kits for boys. The hygiene kits include hand sanitizer, soap, water purification tablets, masks, multi-purpose cloths,and sanitary pads for girls. In addition, 1,000 first aid kits which include whistles, band-aids, alcohol pad, and torches are also dispatched.
According to state media, more than 13.91 million people have been affected, 1.47 million displaced, and at least 99 people died due to the heavy rainfall and flooding in Henan, as of 12:00 pm, 29 July 2021.
UNICEF is working closely with local government as well as freight forwarders to get these supplies to affected children. The second batch of supplies including more than 4,200 hygiene kits for girls and boys as well as 500 first aid kits will be delivered to the flooding affected areas in Henan Province, including Zhengzhou, Kaifeng, Luoyang, Nanyang, Pingdingshan, Zhumadian and Xinxiang. UNICEF is also planning to provide more support for post crisis medical equipment replacement, especially for MCH hospitals that are affected by the flooding.
