Highlights

Following the Wenchuan earthquake, the Government of China has launched a gigantic reconstruction effort, showing remarkable commitment and capacity. The enormous attention to each individual human life in the rescue effort has been widely recognized and praised. One of the challenges and opportunities will be to put the wellbeing of the worst affected people first also in the reconstruction strategy. In this context, children – who are the most vulnerable and also one of the most adversely affected population groups – will require special consideration.
