Every child deserves happiness. However, not all children are benefiting equally from China’s economic and social development. No matter where they are, every child has the right to health, nutrition, care, protection, education and development.
Children’s futures are at risk. Act now to help shape a better future for every child.
Dreams of a little ‘tree sprout’
Xiaoyuan, who lives in Longchuan County in Yunnan Province, suffered from birth defects and had low self-esteem. Shortly after his birth, his mother divorced her husband and left the family.
Wan Yanhua, a Barefoot Social Worker, reported Xiaoyuan’s situation to programme experts and connected him with a hospital that waived surgery fees.
Xiaoyuan was cured and became more outgoing after the surgery. He used to play on his own, but now he often visits the Child-Friendly Space. “I‘m here to draw, sing and dance”, he says.
Xiaoyuan thrives in the company of friends and Wan Yanhua. “A tree sprouts from a seed”, says Xiaoyuan. “The bigger it grows, the stronger it gets.”
Act now to help vulnerable children thrive and reach their full potential.
*By donating monthly to UNICEF, you can help us deliver long-term support for vulnerable children where it is needed most in China and around the world.
Diseases, armed conflicts, natural disasters, food shortages and other crises are robbing more and more children of their childhoods. Children are losing too much because of these – their homes, their families, their schools, their health, and sometimes their lives.
However, with your support, you can help one child after another to regain their strength and hope.
Rasha plays to her strengths
Soon after birth, Rasha, 11, suffered from a deformity in her legs that prevented her from walking.
Like many children in Syria, she grew up amid more than ten years of armed conflict.
However, Rasha goes to school in a borrowed wheelchair with the help of her sister and never misses a class.
She often ranks at the top of her class. UNICEF provided allowances for children like Rasha with disabilities to help them cope with financial hardships that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rasha also received a new wheelchair. She now dreams of becoming a pediatrician, so that she can help children in need.
Believe in the power of a good deed, believe in the potential of every child.
*UNICEF Pledge for Emergency plan is aimed to support the SDG achievement in China and beyond, particularly for the most vulnerable children.
